What Is Not Changing?

Mike Clark + What Is Not Changing

'What's not going to change in the next 10 years?'

In an interview, Jeff Bezos shared how this question allows you to build a business strategy around the things that are stable in time.

He shares how in Amazon's retail business, customers want low prices, fast delivery and a vast selection. Knowing this will matter in 10 years, Amazon put effort into “spinning those things up”, knowing the energy they put in today will still be paying off dividends for our customers 10 years from now.

This sentence that stood out to me was, “When you have something that you know is true, even over the long term, you can afford to put a lot of energy into it.”

What is true in your industry today and for the foreseeable future? How much of your strategy focuses on refining the essentials?

Getting back to basics and doing them better than anybody else can be a winning formula. Could you own one, or two, or even three “non-changing” metrics and build your business around getting really good at them. Amazon chooses price, delivery and selection. What have your customers always valued, currently value and will likely want more of in the future?
